General English course will help you develop four core skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing. The course will focus on: 

  • building confidence to use English in real life situations outside the classroom 
  • improving fluency and accuracy in spoken English 
  • enhancing your writing skills 
  • learning how to understand native and non-native English speakers 
  • expanding your vocabulary and grammar

Albright team of professional teachers will help you to achieve your goals and support you at every step of your learning journey.  

General English course is offered at the following six levels*: 

  • Beginner* 
  • Elementary 
  • Pre-Intermediate 
  • Intermediate 
  • Upper-Intermediate 
  • Advanced* (offered in the evening shift only)

*Students are tested on their first day to ensure that they are placed at the right level. 
 

  • Students are expected to complete 10 study weeks (excluding official school breaks) at each level. 
  • Classes are scheduled for 20 hours every week 
  • A minimum attendance of 80% is required 
  • Students can enroll for a maximum duration of 72 weeks (about 1 and a half years), including up to 10 weeks of official school breaks per year. 
  • Within a 72-week enrollment duration, a student can complete up to 6 levels pending their academic progress. 
  • To progress to the next level, students must complete 10 study weeks at the level, achieve 65% or above in the Skills Test and meet the attendance requirement.

Notes: 

  • Study periods must be organized in blocks of 10 weeks
  • You can start the course on any Monday except for official school breaks.

  • All new students must attend an orientation program on their first day. 
  • During the orientation, you will complete a Placement Test. The test checks your English level and helps us to place you in the class which will maximize your learning potential. 
  • After the placement test, you can consult with our student support team to review and adjust your enrollment if required. 

Minimum age of 18

Minimum Enrollment Duration: A certificate of attainment is issued only to students whose enrollment duration includes 10 or more study weeks (not inclusive of study breaks). 

Attendance Requirement: Students must maintain an overall attendance rate of 80% or higher throughout their enrollment. 

Achievement and Assessment: To qualify for a certificate of attainment, you must complete at least one level by passing the level’s skills test (see the Assessments Overview for more details) with a score of 60% or higher. 

Progress Tests: Every two study weeks you will complete a Progress Test. It is a quick test to check your progress. After the Progress Test, your teacher will provide feedback and give some tips on how to improve your English further. 

Skills Test: Every 5 study weeks you must complete a Skills Test. It assesses the development of four skills – listening, reading, writing and speaking. The Skills Test results help us to decide if you are ready to progress to the next level.

Minimum Attendance: Your attendance must never fall below 80%. Falling below this threshold is considered a breach of your visa conditions. 

Daily Attendance Criteria: Attendance for a day is only counted if you attend the full scheduled duration of classes. 

Academic Progress: To maintain satisfactory course progress, students must complete a Skills Test every 5 study weeks and achieve 65% or above in each macro skill (listening, reading, writing and speaking). 

Seeking Support: If you are struggling to maintain satisfactory course progress, you need to contact Albright student support services for assistance.  

Consequences of Non-Compliance: Failure to comply with the attendance requirements may result in the implementation of attendance intervention strategies and cancellation of your enrollment.
